TRAVEL JOURNALS

It has been my custom, in recent years, to keep a journal as I go. It's a great time-killer for a solo traveller, it helps me remember cultural and practical details that would have been forgotten otherwise, and, when I write in a restaurant while waiting for dinner, the staff assumes I must be a critic, and treats me like gold! These pages will ultimately contain excerpts from a number of older, handwritten trip journals, an archive of online journals from my current trip pages, and some post-trip reflections when writing time is at a premium- it's taking some time to transcribe and edit my lengthy, handwritten notes! While birding has been a central part of most of these trips, my journals are not primarily focused on that subject- details of bird sightings are primarily kept in the software I use to track sightings. These journals, instead, largely focus on cultural commentary, practical details, descriptive notes about scenery and such, and, of course, a great deal about the local cuisine! I've also put my digital video camera to work as of late, and photos accompany most of these texts. There's probably some useful info here for travellers- check out my Links for the websites of many of the best places I've stayed.
