Yellowish Flycatcher
Empidonax flavescens

Yellowish Flycatcher is a high-elevation species, one which I saw for the first time on my summer 2005 trip to central and western Panama. My first day at a cabin above Guadalupe, on the west slope of Volcan Barú, was a rainy one, and I took advantage of a short break in the downpour to walk into town for dinner at the Los Quetzales Lodge. En route, as the rain began to come down again, I spotted the Yellowish Flycatcher pictured below along the side of the road. I would guess that the bird was distracted by the heavy rain, as I did not observe the species at such close range for the rest of the trip.
