| White-vented Plumelteer is a rather large and handsome neotropical species, one of the more regular hummingbirds at the feeders at Panama's Canopy Tower. The male pictured below was filmed at the Canopy Tower in July of 2005. The female of the species is smaller and duller, and still gets me scratching my head on occasion! It doesn't help that the female is not illustrated in A Field Guide to the Birds of Panama. |
| I enjoyed even more outstanding looks at this species in may of 2006, when I found plumeleteers at both the Canopy Tower and the Canopy Lodge. I smile when I think of my father's difficulty in remembering the unusual family name of this bird; remember that temperate-zone hummingbirds possess less colorful sobriquets than their neotropical counterparts. I waited patiently by the feeders at the Tower to collect the images presented below, which show remarkable detail of the plumage of this lovely hummingbird. |
