White-throated Mountain-Gem
Lampornis castoneoventris

During my summer 2005 trip to western Panama, I found White-throated Mountain-Gem to be perhaps the most common hummingbird species in the higher elevations. I caught some film of this gorgeous male as it fed near the guard house at El Respingo, on the western side of the Sendero Los Quetzales.

A decent look at the stunning male White-throated Mountain-Gem.

The bird pictured below is also a male White-throated Mountain-Gem, this time shown from behind and with its crown matted down by moisture, a tougher i.d.. I filmed this bird at the feeders near the upper cabins of Los Quetzales.
