Swallow-tailed Kite
Elanoides forficatus

I've seen the unmistakeable shape of Swallow-tailed Kites soaring over Panama's Canopy Tower, and in June of 2005 saw my first U.S. birds in southern Florida. But I enjoyed my best looks to date on my long trip to Panama in the summer of 2005, when I found this species in several locations. The bird pictured below was one of a half-dozen or so birds enjoyed at close range while they soared near the top of Cerro Tute, above Santa Fé.
