Spotted Antbird
Hylophylax naevioides

The Spotted Antbird is another example of the difference a month can make when visiting the neotropics. On two visits to Panama, I missed this bird in August 2003, but in September 2004 I saw it every day. This beautiful bird was easily seen on Semaphore Hill, sometimes at ant swarms, usually in the company of more abundant Bicolored Antbirds. It characteristically lurks in the underbrush, so I was thrilled to capture even these slightly dark images.

A nice look at the striking male Spotted Antbird.

A good look at the intersting scalloped feathers on the back of the Spotted Antbird.
