| Southern Lapwing, a large and striking member of the plover family, is fairly common in open areas throughout much of Panama. Only a couple of decades ago it was not known to breed in this country, and it is likely another example of a species that has benefited from the wholesale clearing of land for agricultural and ranching purposes. I filmed the bird below in May of 2006 near El Chirú, Coclé, where a number of lapwings were sighted, including an apparently nesting bird. |
