Rufous-collared Sparrow is one of the most widespread songbird species of the neotropics, ranging
from southern Mexico to Tierra del Fuego, and it is even found in part of the Caribbean (there is an interesting article
regarding the vocalizations of this species in the September/October 2005 issue of Birding). Over the course of its range this species
is found in a variety of habitats and at most elevations, but in Panama the bird seems restricted to higher elevations. On my summer 2005 tour of central and western Panama
I found Rufous-collared Sparrow to be abundant in the Western Highands, where I filmed the bird below at Mi Jardin es su Jardin, a botanical garden in Boquete.
