Red-lored Parrot
Amazona autumnalis

In my modest travels, I've had the good fortune to find 7 different species of amazona parrots, including 4 single-island endemics from the Caribbean. I look back at these sightings and bemoan the times I didn't have a camera on hand- the close-range, spectacular St. Vincent Parrot would have made for great footage! The parrots in Panama have not been particularly cooperative, generally seen as distant, squawking figures in the early morning at the Canopy Tower. The Red-lored Parrot pictured below was about as accomodating as I've seen, perching in the morning light in a reasonably close snag.
