Orange-chinned Parakeet
Brotogeris jugularis

Parakeets are funny birds- they can be abundant to the point of achieving nuisance status, yet they can be quite elusive as well. One day in Panama I stood, with another experienced birder, under a tree that quite audibly held dozens of Orange-chinned Parakeets, yet we couldn't lay eyes on a single bird. We finally were able to pick them out from the green foliage to which they clung, and once we did, they seemed so easy to find. The image below was a bit easier to obtain, of a bird in attendance at fruit feeders at a private residence in Gamboa, Panama, in August 2003.
