| The elegant Long-tailed Duck is a regular winter visitor in modest numbers to New York waters. The species was formerly known as "Oldsquaw", a more charming name, but one with unfortunately racist overtones. This pair at the Jones Beach Coast Guard Station represents the only time the species has been close enough, or in placid enough waters, for me to capture it on film. |
