Lesser Goldfinch
Carduelis psaltria

I was hiking through the beautiful San Pedro National Riparian Conservation Area, outside Sierra Vista, Arizona, in July of 2003, and paused to sit on a bench along the San Pedro River, enjoying a shady spot on a scorching-hot day, when I happened upon a pair of Lesser Goldfinches taking a bath in the river. The stills presented below are of modest quality, but the video itself is a hoot, showing several minutes of these adorable birds enjoying a welcome respite from a typically hot southwestern day.

A nice look at a handsome male Lesser Goldfinch.
