Black-striped Sparrow
Arremonops conirostris

Black-striped Sparrow is one of the very few sparrows that breeds in Panama (generally true through much of the neotropics). I captured this somewhat dark video of this somewhat retiring species at the Ammo Dump Ponds, near Gamboa, Panama, in September of 2004.

A modest image of a handsome Black-striped Sparrow.

I've found Black-striped Sparrow to be much more common in the foothills of Panama, and it is especially easy to observe around the Canopy Lodge in El Valle. It remains, however, difficult to film, as evidenced by the modest image presented below, collected in May of 2006.

A decent look at a handsome Black-striped Sparrow.
